Hex and Halo footstools in small and large

Sometimes it’s the little things in life that make a big difference, and this definitely applies to the humble (or not so humble) footstool. So, if you’re in the market for one of these unsung heroes of the living room, then read on...

Form and function...

Just like there are many names for a footstool (think pouffes, ottoman, storage ottoman etc.) there are also many functions for a footstool, so bear this in mind when you start browsing as this will determine what style is best for you.

We’ve put together the most common function-combos below, so choose which one suits you best:

The coffee table + footrest footstool...

If you want your footstool to function as a coffee table and a footrest, it will need a nice firm top cushion so that items won’t wriggle when you prop your feet up. We’d recommend a style like our Eden footstool shown here, which looks extra elegant with its wooden tapered legs.

TIP: To function effectively as a coffee table, your footstool should sit between 30 and 40cms away from the seat of your sofa. If you have a small living room, lay newspaper on the floor in the shape of your footstool to see if you will be able to easily walk around the furniture.

The stylish storage + spare seating footstool...

If you’re a bit of a social butterfly and like to have guests over, having some spare seating on standby is never a bad thing. We’d recommend our Dillon storage footstool as this is just the right height for sitting on, and it has a gap between the floor and the bottom of the footstool, making it easy to move around. Also, the storage compartment is super-helpful for quickly clearing away clutter when guests are on their way.

TIP: Don’t make your footstool too heavy with large books and magazines, as this will make it difficult to move when you need to use it as seating.

The spare seating + footrest footstool...

If going into full relaxation mode is more your thing, we recommend our Hex and Halo footstools which can be easily moved about, so that you can choose your favourite spot on the sofa and prop those feet up after a hard day’s work. These styles will comfortably seat one person, so they can also function as additional seating too.

Finishing touches...

Once you’ve chosen the perfect style, give careful consideration to the fabric that it is finished with. Your footstool may acquire a few crumbs if used as a coffee table, so we recommend durable fabrics that are hardwearing. Our ‘Dusky’ fabric range, which encompasses an array of beautiful colour options, can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth.

If your footstool will be regularly used as extra seating, we recommend fabrics like cottons and linens, which are less likely to pill.
