Happy New Year! So the festive season’s over. The decorations are down, the selection box is empty, and you’ve forgotten the words to Auld Lang Syne once again.
The good news is, we’ve now a whole host of new and developing trends to look forward to. We’ve been taking a peek at what we’ll be seeing this year, think of it as your home style horoscope for 2017.
Pastels were a theme of 2016. But tones are going deeper and more sumptuous with jewel colours shining this year. Think ruby reds, rich emeralds, amethyst accents and sapphire blues. If you made the most of the latest metallic looks, these colours will compliment your coppers and golds perfectly.
As usual with colour trends, you can go all out to celebrate one shade or pick up a tone with little touches around the room.
A new angle on pattern
If we could travel back in time, we’d go straight to the Roaring 1920s. The Flapper’s bobbed hair and cloche hat, Chanel’s first little black dress, and the whole new arrival of Hollywood glamour. And from fashion to art, architecture to interiors, Art Deco was making its rather fine, repetitively patterned, mark.
So we couldn’t be happier to see it inspiring patterns in 2017. Go true vintage, or just keep a knowing eye out for the geometric shapes and angular patterns that follow in Art Deco’s footsteps.
Go for greenery
Colour experts Pantone describe their colour of the year as ‘Nature’s neutral’. It’s the natural, yellow-green shade of this versatile tone. So get it going on with green and bring all the calming characteristics of the outdoors in. Adorn walls, fabrics and accessories. Or with the on-going trend for botanicals, get green-fingered with pretty plants (real or fake!)
Keeping it Scandi
There’s still a soft spot for Scandinavian style in 2017 (they just do interiors so well!) But remember this is modern Scandi. Not so much stark lines and blank colours as bold pattern and sparks of bright colour to break up neutral tones. It still has a minimalist edge, but make friends with textiles and textures to create interest too.
It all helps to cultivate that sophisticated design our Nordic neighbours pull off so effortlessly.
We can’t wait to see these trends come to life this year. Pick and mix the ones that work for you and get set for a stylish 2017.
