In February, interior design duo 2LG completed a total renovation of Associate Editor of Red magazine – Pip McCormac’s – one bedroom apartment in London’s Waterloo.
Sofa Workshop worked with Pip and the editorial team at Red magazine in 2016 to create a capsule collection focused on modern classics. The whole collaboration comes full circle with the 2LG project, with the Lexington sofa that Pip originally designed finding a place in his home!
We spoke to 2LG about this project, and how they brought it to life…
1. What was the brief for this project?
Create an insta-worthy home with a beautiful kitchen that’s great for cooking and entertaining.
The spaces didn’t function and the client wanted open plan living, so we switched the kitchen and bedroom over and opened up the main spaces to create one huge living area. We added pocket doors to save space and essentially removed every wall, so that we could add clever storage throughout with built in joinery, using luxury materials like marble, brass and smoked glass.
2. How did you decide on style of sofa?
The Lexington sofa was designed by Pip, so it was the perfect fit! We chose bespoke mohair velvet from Mark Alexander for a touch of luxury, and had the legs sprayed black to really customise the shape. We loved that it was super flexible to customise, and the sofa has such elegant lines.
3. Did your fabric/style choices change at any time during the project?
Nope, we used the mohair velvet throughout the apartment in two colours, dark teal and a beautiful grey (that we named Jennifer grey after the clients’ cat!). We had a bespoke headboard made in this grey, and cushions in different sizes, so that they could essentially be used anywhere in the apartment and still co-ordinate.
