Have you heard about hygge yet? It’s a Danish concept that’s creeping across the UK – and we love it!
Pronounced Hue-gah (or like you’re clearing your throat), it’s one of those words where we struggle for a literal translation – think déjà vu or doppelgänger.

To get a feel for hygge, just imagine your cosiest ever evening in. Candles lit, your best friends close by, a mug full of hot chocolate, marshmallows and cream… But it’s not as straightforward as being snug and cosy; hygge incorporates the calm comfort and warmth of life’s simple pleasures. There’s an absence of stress and a soothing kindness to it. Aahhhh.
Understandably, it’s closely tied to Scandinavian trends. And it’s inspired our designers to create three new sofa styles to help bring the hygge vibe to your living room.
Hygge
Large comfy cushions and a relaxed feel all add to the hygge here. Choose the filling and fabric you love to give it optimum comfort. Then pop on a box set of Borgen or The Bridge, or bring out the board games, and you’re all set for endless evenings of peaceful pleasure.

(By the way, our designers christened this Hygge. But if you’re not confident about pronouncing that and want to ask about it in store, feel free to ask for ‘that new one with the Danish name’.)
Otto
Being with friends and loved ones is wonderful. But sometimes we experience hygge by recharging our batteries alone. Try a good book, the crackling smokey aroma from an open fire, soothing tones from the radio… all enjoyed on the Otto. With its feather filled cushions and invitingly laid-back look, it could be just the place to create your kind of tranquillity.

Whether or not you choose a new sofa, chunky knitwear is a sure fire way to take you towards the Scandinavian hygge dream. Knitted blankets, knitted cushions… but above all the snuggliest pair of knitted socks you can find (or ideally knit yourself).
Sonny
The spacious Sonny corner sofa gives you room to stretch out, or have everyone over. So whether you’re enjoying no guests or endless guests, you can just go with the flow.
As with almost all our sofas, you can choose the fabric, colour and even the feet you want. But we like a calming, neutral tone that can be adorned with all your favourite things. Breaking up lines with texture and colour gives a modern Scandi feel.

Of course, creating hygge is something only you can do. It’s all about how you feel after all. But we hope we can help you on your way to a calm, comfortable home with the sofa that suits your mood as well as your style.
