Top Christmas Events South East 2015

Now that the Christmas countdown has officially begun, no doubt you’ll be looking for ways to get into the festive spirit. These wonderful Christmas events taking place not far from our stores in the south east will help you make the most of the wintry afternoons and chilly nights.

Father Christmas Boat Trips, 28th November – 24th December

Enjoy a magical trip down the canal to meet Father Christmas in his grotto. Children will get a present from Santa, and there are plenty of festive refreshments for everyone.

Chichester Christmas Market, 5th – 13th December

For the sixth year in a row, over 50 festival stalls will be arriving, bearing lots of festive goods. Offering a range of unusual gifts and inspiration, from crafts and unique finds to tried and tested Christmas gifts and foods, there’s something for everyone.

Weald and Downland: Tree Dressing, 6th December

This is a magical occasion for all the family, celebrating the importance of trees in our lives. Take part in the traditional songs and dances, make a lantern, then join the illuminated procession as darkness falls.

Father Christmas Visits, West Dean, 12 & 13th December and 19th & 20th

Bring the children to visit Father Christmas, make a tree decoration to take home, and receive a gift.

Weald and Downland: Museum at Christmas, 26th – 28th December

The Museum will be recreating the spirit of Christmas throughout the ages – from Medieval to Edwardian times. Period music, historical demonstrations, traditional food and drink, plus crackling open log fires will bring history to life so you can discover how your ancestors celebrated Christmas.

Mediaeval Christmas Banquet, 5th December

Take a step back in time and celebrate the festive season the way your ancestors did at this mediaeval style banquet.

The Fountain Centre Christmas Concert, 7th December

This Christmas concert will be a night of carols and entertainment featuring the internationally renowned opera star Kathryn Harries, the Fountain Centre Patron.

Jack and the Beanstalk on Ice at Spectrum, 11th – 13th December

Spectrum’s talented ice team are pulling out all the stops for this year’s ice pantomime, bringing Jack and the Beanstalk to Guildford. The classic fairy tale adaptation combines all the ingredients for a great show – a dashing hero, a pantomime dame, a sprinkle or two of magic, and a happy ending.

The Mayor of Guildford’s Christmas Concert, 13th December

Now in its 63rd year, the Mayor of Guildford’s Christmas Concert is one of the highlights of the town’s festive season. This concert will feature Guildford’s Vivace Chorus, under the baton of their musical director Jeremy Backhouse, as well as seasonal readings.

Christmas Activities at Lockwood Arts Centre, 19th December – 2nd January

Jelly Tree Productions are holding Christmas workshops for children to enjoy. They can learn how to make an animated short film, as well as their own personalised lanterns from reclaimed waste.

A Merry Christmas at Basildon Park, 28th November – 5th January

Come and see this Georgian mansion beautifully decorated for Christmas. Explore the wintery gardens, treat yourself to a cream tea, and experience the nostalgia of the 1950s kitchen.

Bucklebury Christmas on the Farm, 1st – 23rd December

Christmas is a special time of year at the farm; the holly is dripping with berries, the tree is up in the barn, fairy lights are twinkling, and best of all, Santa is dropping in daily to visit children!

Newbury’s Christmas Grotto, 4th – 23rd December

Santa is taking up residence at Parkway! Parkway and the Newbury Bid have teamed up to run an excellent Santa’s grotto throughout the festive period.

Santa Cruises, 12th – 13th December

Join the cruise where they’re going on an adventure to ‘Greenham Land’ to find Santa. Children will enjoy a Christmas story, singing, presents, and plenty of time with Santa during the trip.

Festive Raceday, 16th December

This is the perfect place to celebrate Christmas with friends, family, or colleagues. The restaurants and private box packages will have a special festive twist, so come along for this fun day out.

Ice Skating in the Park, 21st November – 3rd January

The open-air ice rink returns for the fifth year running, and this year it’s bigger and better than ever. Get your skates on!

Christmas Comedy Cafe at Trinity Theatre, 3rd – 18th December

Try out some fresh comedy by coming down to the Christmas Comedy Café, where the theatre will be transformed into an intimate and atmospheric laughter lounge hosting some of the best comedians on the circuit.

Santa Specials on the Spa Valley Railway, 5th – 6th December

Santa and his elves are travelling on the Spa Valley Railway this Christmas, and you can join them. Get free gifts and enjoy entertainment from the balloon modeller, then try out some face painting, Victorian penny slot machines, plenty of mince pies, and get a chance to meet the driver!

Cinderella at the Assembly Hall Theatre, 11th December – 3rd January

The most magical fairy tale of them all will be brought to life through stunning costumes, beautiful sets, real Shetland ponies, the hilarious ugly sisters, and amazing special effects. This spectacular pantomime is perfect for the whole family.

The Night Before Christmas at Trinity Theatre, 12th – 19th December

A mouse called Eddie can’t understand why only humans get presents, so he decides to find Father Christmas and find out for himself. He sets off on a wild adventure that is sure to delight the very young.
