Top Christmas Events North 2015

Get into the festive spirit and check out what’s going on up north this Christmas. There are loads of Christmas events happening near our stores, so why not take the family along?

The Scottish Market, 20th November to 4th January

The Scottish Market in St Andrew Square is a showcase of simply the best craft, food, and drink that Scotland has to offer, all ready and waiting to be browsed and bought. The treats available will include fresh seafood, chocolates, cupcakes, gin, craft beer, jewellery, woodwork, and much, much more.

Christmas Tree Maze, 20th November – 4th January

Prepare to get lost in a magical maze that’s a delight for children and adults alike. If you can make your way to the middle, you’ll discover the elves’ workshop, where Santa’s little helpers will be waiting with treats.

Princes Street Gardens Ice Rink, 20th November – 4th January

Don your skates and take a twirl around the glittering ice rink, with Edinburgh’s famous skyline as an unrivalled backdrop.

Santa Train, 20th November – 4th January

Board the train at Santa’s station and take an exciting ride around Santa Land. See the castle, the tree on the mound, the big wheel, the huts, and the ice rink, and wave to the crowds as Santa sounds the bell.

Abandoman’s Bass Drop Ceilidh, 31st December

Authentic Ceilidh musicians meet Abandoman’s unique hip-hop sound to create a brand new kind of Ceilidh music. Enjoy some of Abandoman’s favourite songs, followed by a foot-stomping, eye-popping Ceilidh rave. This is New Year’s Eve – but not as you know it.

Santa Claus at Life, 5th, 12th & 19th December

Father Christmas will be taking time out of his busy schedule to pop on down to the Science Centre. He’ll be checking his list, meeting children, and handing out a present or two.

Maisy’s Christmas Tree, 5th – 13th December

Join this wonderful Maisy storyparty, perfect for the really little ones. Bringing to life a picture book favourite, with interactive songs, games, and a very special visit from Santa himself, this is a great way to entertain toddlers this festive season.

Northumberland Chase Christmas Raceday, 19th December

Start your countdown to Christmas at the Northumberland Chase Christmas Hurdle. Enjoy a great day of racing with friends and colleagues in this festive atmosphere.

A Bond Night in Monte Carlo, 19th December

For your eyes only at Durham County Cricket Club, celebrate the Christmas season with a black tie casino night. Try your hand at the casino tables, grab a martini, and experience a thrilling drive in a Formula One simulator.

Christmas at Candleriggs, 21st November – 24th December

More than 20 stalls are being hosted in Candleriggs Square, making it a perfect festive shopping destination for family and friends. The traditional Bavarian stalls will bring together Scottish hand-crafters and delicious food, as well as funfair rides.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town, 25th November – 17th January

It’s the night before Christmas and two excited children say goodbye to their parents, who have won a cruise for two to Lapland. Things take a turn for the worse when two bumbling burglars plan to kidnap the children and hold them to ransom, but help is at hand from Elfie the Selfie and the Magical Fairy Bell. This is pantomime at its best, full of slapstick fun and festive cheer.

Glasgow on Ice, 27th November – 31st December

Scotland’s largest outdoor ice rink returns for five weeks of skating, fairground rides, and unmissable festive fun.

Children’s Christmas Craft Workshops at Glasgow Fort, 28th November – 24th December

Take a creative break from all the stress of shopping with a two-hour Christmas sewing workshop. Your children will create and design their very own Christmas stocking.

Christmas Carol Concert In Support of the Paul O’Gorman Leukaemia Research Centre, 5th December

Enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the University of Glasgow and a selection of traditional and modern carols from the University of Glasgow Chapel Choir. Proceeds from this event will raise vital funds for leukaemia research at the Paul O’Gorman Leukaemia Research Centre.
