Our fabrics and covers

Our fabrics and covers

We have over 2200 fabrics and leathers to choose from, which can be a little daunting even for a hardened shopper!

Because of this huge selection we are only able to show some of our favourites on our web site.

For the full range you'll need to visit your nearest store.

All our fabrics are suitable for upholstery, so whilst it is important to bear in mind how much use your sofa will get, you should also choose a fabric you really like and fits in with your decor. Remember we can send you a free sample of any fabric you like.

A good starting point is to consider whether you want loose or tight covers.

A loose covered model gives you all the practical advantages of being able to completely remove all the covers and washing or dry cleaning them (depending on the fabric type). Great if you have children or pets. Loose covers often give you a more relaxed, less formal look than tight fitted covers. Although we now have several models with 'tailored' loose covers giving the practical advantages of loose covers with a smarter appearance.

A tight covered model means you have a more tailored, smarter appearance to your sofa. You aren't able to remove the covers for washing but you can have them cleaned in situ.

Fabric care…

This is only a general guide, for information about a specific fabric please contact us.

For both loose and tight covered models we always recommend our five year fabric protection for a small extra charge. Sunlight may cause your fabric to fade prematurely, where possible, avoid prolonged exposure.

We all love our pets, but their claws, oily coats and fur will accelerate wear. If you allow your pet on the sofa you will need to clean and brush the fabric regularly to prevent a build up of dirt.

Take extra care with sharp objects, such as studs and belt buckles as these can snag even the toughest of fabrics.

Many fabrics have natural characteristics that you only notice on closer inspection. Pilling can sometimes occur in early stages of use and does not indicate premature wear or an inferior fabric. The bobbles can be removed with a fluff shaver.

Many fabrics are made from slub yarns to achieve a natural look. Slubs and cotton seeds are a natural feature of the fabric and will not affect the life of the fabric.

Some of our more delicate fabrics such as velvets and deep pile chenilles are susceptible to crushing and pressure marks, so again take care with sharp objects.

We could possibly write a book just about fabrics but hopefully the above is of some use in helping you decide. If you need to know anything else then please call us on 0844 249 9161 or contact your nearest store.
