Bringing Home the Gold: How to Mix Metallics in Your Home

When somebody mentioned Gold, Silver and Bronze we got excited. Unfortunately, they were talking about the Olympics. No wonder they seemed baffled when we started on about how metallics have moved on from the coppers and rose golds of 2015.

Those wonderful athletes may be taking medals home (go Team GB!) but we’re all about bringing the metallic trend home. And we’ve created our own medal table for every room in the house.

Glitzy Kitchens

Gold…!

This kitchen picks up first prize for demonstrating how to mix metallics – a trend that’s, well, on trend. It’s the uber-reflective mosaic tiles and bronze caged lights that we’re particularly swooning over. And, ironically, no gold in sight!

Silver…

Grated cheese, grated carrot, grated apple, grated chocolate, grated soup… there’d probably be a theme to our culinary repertoire if we got our hands on this.

Bronze…

Shiny kitchen accessories. Because everyone needs a toaster to match their jewellery, right?

Dining Room

Gold…!

Take a “leaf” out of this book and copy this gorgeously gold styled dinner table – just a hint of house plant prevents it being over the top.

Add a little Midas touch to dinner with gold-dipped cutlery. Who knew your fork could be a dinner table talking point?

Silver…

But never mind what’s actually on the table. We want this rustic chandelier to add a heap of sparkle to our dining room.

Bronze…

Be the hostess (or host) with the mostest – the mostest blinging trolley, that is. (When it came to style, this was a tie between quintessentially quirksome and art deco inspiration.)

Bedazzling Bathrooms

Gold…!

These stylish metallic tiles bounce light around the room. (Just don’t scare yourself by mistaking it for a mirror one blurry-eyed morning.)

Silver…

Bath in the bedroom? Bed in the bathroom? We’re not quite sure which way round it is, but it’s amazing either way!

Bronze…

Quirky always sneaks a way into our hearts. Like this copper pipe loo roll holder. Exquisite.

Shiny Bedrooms

Gold…!

Top marks for boho decadence. The rich golds, bold colours and eclectic objects create an eye-catching area.

Silver…

Metallics complement monochrome. And with a black and white canvas and geometric shapes, you can then play mix and match with various tones and patterns.

Bronze…

Of course, you don’t have to go all out with the glitter. Just add a few choice pretty shiny things and hey presto!

Sparkly Living Rooms

Gold…!

Un-flipping-beatable. Shiny. Vintage. Pineapples. What more can we say?

Silver…

As far removed from gilt frames and brass light fittings as you can get. Solid sparkle, softened by those pretty little flowers.

Bronze…

Anyone for ostentation? If you go for one big bold metallic, keep the rest of the room simple and neutral to make it feel modern.

So, how could you make metallics work for you? Go for gold (…and silver, and bronze, and copper, and pewter…) and give your home some grown up sparkle.
