Get the Bohemian Look With These Brilliantly Boho-Chic Interiors

The bohemian style eschews the ordinary, the traditional; it is about making your own rules and finding your own design style. A boho-chic interior is not constrained or carefully organised, instead it is reflective of the free-spirited nature of those who are drawn to it as a decor choice. If you are one of those with an affinity for all things bohemian and want to create the look in your home, then these boho-chic interiors should give you some ideas and inspiration.

Go East

Boho-chic encompasses a vast array of design options and is not nearly as limiting as other interior design styles. Having said that, it is often associated with Eastern styles, such as Moroccan and Indian. Filling your home with all manner of mismatched items is key to achieving the bohemian look, and if you have pieces collected on your travels to Asia and the Middle East, so much the better. A wall hanging from India or a pouffe picked up in a Moroccan souk will add interest and colour to a space, and make the room entirely unique to you and your own experiences.

Free Yourself

If you’re considering boho-chic for your interiors, it’s important to resist the desire to carefully plan out a room’s design. Being bohemian is about freeing yourself from all constraints, so add whatever items, art, patterns, materials, fabrics, and colours you like, and always remember boho-chic about not conforming. Don’t worry about which pieces work with what – that’s entirely beside the point. There are similarities between the bohemian and eclectic styles – both being non-conformist – but where boho differs is in its lack of any design style, whereas eclectic usually brings together a mix of different interior design features.

Let Your Colours Clash

One of the best things about decorating your interior in the bohemian style is that it allows for no end of colour choices. Creating a colourful space of your own choosing is easy because nothing need match. A successful boho-chic interior collects together bits and pieces that don’t necessarily look like they belong with each other, and mixing together a variety of unrelated colours is one way of achieving this look.

Or Leave Out the Colour

That’s not to say, however, that you have to choose bold and contrasting colours to give your space a distinct boho-chic styling. You don’t have to include anything in particular, that’s the whole idea! If you prefer a more understated look then that will work too. Instead of focusing on colours, for example, you could instead emphasise different textures or patterns. Combinations of wood, wicker, fur, leather, and even a plant or two can, when done right, give a room a truly bohemian feel.

Be Messy

If you like to have everything in order, with all unnecessary items either banished from your home completely or conveniently stored away somewhere out of sight, then the boho style probably isn’t for you. Boho-chic embraces messiness, and by that we don’t mean untidiness, we mean disorganisation. A subtle difference yes, but the difference is a matter of intention. Clutter your space with unusual souvenirs or artwork, drape fabrics loosely across the walls or on to the furniture to create a carefree appeal, or choose unusual places within a room to put your furniture and accessories.
