20 Creative Coffee Table Designs

What would a living room be without the humble coffee table? This piece of furniture is a must have item, but so often only serves a utilitarian purpose, suffering the indignity of coffee and tea stains and all to often obscured by to many books and magazines. It doesn’t have to be this was, though – yours can be much more than that, as these creative coffee table designs prove.

1. MSTRF AD Block Series Table

A hand-crafted, contemporary design with a decidedly Modernist, abstract/cubist twist. A very unusual creation, where the flowing outer edges contrast with the straight, almost mechanical inlet design.

2. Steampunk Coffee Table

This table weighs in at over 400 pounds, so it is safe to say that it is best placed in a specific area where you won’t want it moved too often! Steampunk (a genre of science fiction that features steam-powered machinery) is a huge trend at the moment, and new ideas for everyday furnishings are springing up all the time. With examples of cog-filled beauty such as these, is there any wonder why?

Mathematicians, biologists and nature-lovers rejoice! A coffee table where the shape is based upon the fractal growth pattern of trees. Yet another example of how geeky things can look both beautiful and original.

18. Gaming Coffee Table

Gaming tables are classics, and they’re not seen often enough. Chess is a game commonly found on such coffee tables, but this one includes backgammon, monopoly, dominoes and a green table for card games such as poker. Of course, the table can also be flipped and used as a plain table.

Another hand-crafted piece, made to look like a pair of turntables and a mixer. Unfortunately, the table does not actually play records, but the black, vinyl-looking lacquer does make it deceiving.

20. Svend Aage Jessen Coffee Table

An antique piece again. The centre of the table is ceramic, whilst the four rosewood sides are separated by legs that are seemingly placed in an impractical position, but in actuality maximise space for those sitting around it. One of the largest coffee tables on this list.
